Dear University Community,

Please join me in congratulating former Vice-Chancellor Reuben Brigety!

He has been officially nominated by President Biden to serve as the United States ambassador to the Republic of South Africa. The news was released in a statement by the White House today announcing key nominations.

As I settle into my role as acting vice-chancellor, I am able to reflect on Reuben’s time on the Mountain. I am grateful for his unwavering commitment to keeping our community safe and healthy during a global pandemic. I am inspired by the ambitious vision for Sewanee’s future that he and the Board of Regents helped to develop. And I am empowered by his faith in our community’s capacity to embrace change and possibility.

As I’m sure many of you are, I am proud that our former vice-chancellor will embody some of what he experienced and learned here—including love of this place and the spirit of Ecce Quam Bonum—as he works to serve the country and the world.

Please join me in wishing Reuben, Leelie, Roebel, and Redda (and Buna) all the best on this exciting new chapter.

Sincerely,

Nancy J. Berner
Acting Vice-Chancellor and President
