Radney Foster, C’82—Nashville singer, songwriter, author, and actor—will be back on campus as the Babson Center’s 2022 Humphreys Entrepreneur-in-Residence. He will share insights about his journey from West Texas to Sewanee to Music City and his success navigating the fluid nature of the music industry.

A legendary singer-songwriter, Radney Foster first earned national attention with Foster & Lloyd, the first duo in history to top the Country charts with a debut single, “Crazy Over You.” In the early ’90s, he released his first solo album, Del Rio, Texas 1959, with five singles on the Billboard country charts. His latest project, For You to See the Stars, is a CD with an accompanying book of short fiction. Foster expanded his lyrical prose in this collection of short stories and displays the strong imagery also found in his songwriting.

The Sewanee alumnus has written eight number one hit singles. His discography contains countless cuts by artists ranging from country (Keith Urban, The Chicks, Luke Bryan, Nitty Gritty Dirt Band) to contemporary (Marc Broussard, Hootie & The Blowfish, Kenny Loggins, Los Lonely Boys).

Foster is currently producing the Randy Rogers Band’s next record, working on another book, writing a screenplay, and preparing for the 30th anniversary tour for Del Rio, Texas 1959.

All are invited to this fascinating discussion with a singer and songwriter who “made it” in Music City with hard work and a constant flow of creativity, while adapting to the ever-changing music industry. This event is sponsored by the Babson Center for Global Commerce, the Department of Music, and the Department of English.
