Sewanee Named a Best Value College for 2024 by The Princeton Review

Sewanee is one of the nation's best colleges for students seeking a great education with excellent career preparation and at a relatively affordable price, according to The Princeton Review.

The education services company named Sewanee as one of its Best Value Colleges for 2024 this June.

"Career readiness is embedded across the entire Sewanee experience," said Kim Heitzenrater, associate dean for career readiness and student success. "Students benefit from many resources—including a personal career readiness and student success coach in their first year, funding for internships and research, and regular career exploration and alumni networking events—that help them to design an intentional four-year experience in support of their ultimate postgraduate success."

New faculty fellowship programs have helped to strengthen integration of purpose and career exploration into the classroom and advising conversations, and special interest groups like the Burkett Miller policy fellows and the finance and commercial real estate cohorts offer other paths to student engagement with finding purpose and a fulfilling career.

The success of those efforts is reflected in Sewanee’s career outcomes. Over 95% of College graduates are employed, continuing education, or participating in a fellowship or service commitment within six months of graduation. Sewanee alumni also enjoy high acceptance rates to graduate programs in business (90-95%), law (90-95%), and medicine (80-85%—well above the national average of 42%).

The Princeton Review chose 209 schools for the 2024 list based on data from its surveys of administrators at more than 650 colleges. Topics covered everything from academics, cost, and financial aid to graduation rates, and student debt.

The company also factored in data from its surveys of students attending the schools as well as data regarding alumni’s starting and mid-career salaries and job satisfaction.

In all, The Princeton Review crunched more than 40 data points to tally ROI (Return on Investment) ratings of the colleges that were the bases for the Best Value Colleges school selections. The Princeton Review gave Sewanee an ROI rating score of 90/99.

"The schools we chose as our Best Value Colleges for 2024 are a select group: they comprise only about 8% of the nation’s four-year undergraduate institutions,” said Rob Franek, editor-in-chief of The Princeton Review. “We commend their administrators, faculties, staff, and alumni for all they are doing to educate their students and guide them to success in their careers. These colleges are also exceptional for the generous amount of financial aid they award to students with need and/or for their comparatively low cost of attendance.”

Sewanee also earned a #10 ranking on The Princeton Review list of Top 20 Best Alumni Networks (Private Schools) between #9 Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and #11 Wellesley College.

Sewanee is also a fixture on The Princeton Review’s Most Beautiful Campus list. This year, the University’s 13,000 acre Domain ranked #5.
