Sewanee Welcomes Jeff Zivan, C’93, as Director of Alumni Engagement
The University of the South has announced that Jeff Zivan, C’93, will join Sewanee’s University Relations team on Dec. 1 as director of alumni engagement, succeeding Susan Askew, C’86, who will retire at the end of December after 17 years of exceptional service to Sewanee in that role.
Zivan brings more than 20 years of experience in sales, marketing, and business development, most recently in the healthcare sector. A 1993 Sewanee graduate, he majored in political science with German. He later earned an MBA from the Johnson Graduate School of Management at Cornell University.
Jeff and his wife, Ann Carmen Butler Zivan, C’93, have two sons: Sam, who graduated from Sewanee in 2022, and Jack, who is an undergraduate at the University of Colorado.
“Jeff will bring great energy, experience, and an entrepreneurial spirit to his work in the Alumni Office,” says Interim Vice President for University Relations Jay Fisher, C’79. “We’re delighted to welcome Jeff and Ann Carmen back to the Mountain and look forward to their renewed connection with the Sewanee community.”
As the University prepares to welcome Jeff, it also celebrates Susan Askew, whose devotion to Sewanee and its people has defined her remarkable career. During her 25 years at Sewanee, Susan has cultivated and sustained meaningful relationships between alumni, parents, and the University. She has led countless successful events, strengthened alumni engagement, and developed a parent relations program that offers families their own Sewanee experience. Her enthusiasm, professionalism, and can-do attitude have left a lasting mark on the Sewanee community.
