Getting Married or Adding Your Spouse

Use this checklist when you get married or need to add your spouse to your benefits.

What to do first

Review your current elections and contact Human Resources as soon as possible to understand your timeline and what documentation may be needed.

Checklist

Confirm the deadline for making benefit changes after your qualifying life event.
Gather any required documentation.
Decide whether you want to add your spouse to medical, dental, vision, or other coverage.
If your marriage also results in new eligible stepchildren or other legal dependents, decide whether you want to add them to coverage and ask Human Resources what documentation may be needed.
Review whether your payroll deductions or total costs will change.
Update beneficiaries if needed.
If your name has changed, provide an updated Social Security card as soon as it is available so records can be updated accurately.
Complete any required changes in Employee Navigator.
