At the University of the South we strive to create a campus culture of access to ensure all abilities are welcomed. In order to do this we ask our community to help make the Office of Equity and Equal Opportunity aware of any potential barriers on our domain and report those to the universities ADA Director. A barrier can be a physical, programmatic, or attitudinal obstacle.

When a barrier is reported the ADA Director will work with the appropriate campus partners to asses what steps can be taken to address the concern. Some barriers may take time to address or may need to be reported by multiple people in order to show urgency. Please always feel welcome to report a barrier, even if you believe it has already been reported. Reporters are also welcome to reach out to the ADA Director to ask for status updates on the barriers they submitted by emailing ada@sewanee.edu

Examples of barriers could include;

  • Blocked pathways
  • Broken website links
  • Lack of accessible pathways
  • Entrances that do not have ADA door openers (or non functioning)

Barriers are not grievances around disability discrimination or request for accommodations. Those are handled through separate process overseen by the ADA Director.
