Applying for Accommodations

In an effort to create a campus accessible to all abilities, The University of the South has a separate process for guests and visitors requesting accommodations. Guests can work with the ADA Director to inquire about the accessibility of the areas on campus they will be utilizing, as well as requesting specific accommodations during their time on the domain.

Guests who wish to inquire about the accessibility of the campus can contact the ADA Director at ada@sewanee.edu or by calling 931-598-1896.

Guests who wish to apply for accommodations during their time on the domain can do so by completing the intake form found below.

INTAKE PROCESS

Once an intake form has been submitted the ADA Director will reach out to the applicant through the email submitted on the intake form, unless otherwise specified. The ADA director will invite the applicant in for an intake meeting to go over their requested accommodations. The ADA director will work with the applicant to review documentation and to determine what accommodations would be appropriate during their time on the domain. Once the intake meeting is complete, the ADA Director will provide the applicant with an accommodation letter of approved accommodations and assist with the implementation when needed.

This intake process is designed for the following populations;

      • Guest
      • Visitors
      • Regents/Trustees
      • Program Attendees
      • Conference Attendees

Undergraduate, School of Letters, and School of Theology students can apply for accommodations through the office of Student Accessibility Services.

Employees can apply for accommodations through Human Resources.

DOCUMENTATION

All applicants will be asked to provide supporting documentation when the impact of a disability can not be confidently determined based on interaction alone. For more information on what types of documentation is acceptable, please refer to our Documentation Guidelines.

Documentation Guidelines

Documentation can be emailed to the ADA Director at ada@seawnee.edu or uploaded through our secure file form. Please do not fax or mail in documentation as these are unreliable forms of submission. For questions regarding documentation or submission of documentation individuals can contact the ADA director at ada@seawnee.edu or by calling 931-598-1896.

GRIEVANCES

Individuals who believe they have not received the required support as outlined by the ADA, Section 504 of the rehabilitation act, or other disability laws may file a grievance with the Office of Equity and Equal Opportunity.
