During Advent 2024, the Carey Fellow Junior Cohort (C' 26) completed a 5-week consulting project with Housing Hub TN.
The purpose of this affordable housing study was to deliver analysis and findings to inform organizations working to expand affordable housing opportunities on the South Cumberland Plateau. In seeking to create a data-driven analysis of the affordable housing space in Franklin, Grundy, and Marion Counties, the 10-person team divided the analysis into five parts: background, aging, families, housing supply challenges, and the economy, and then completed stakeholder interviews across each topic. Using findings from this research, the team created a snapshot of the current housing market, completed a housing gap analysis as part of a constructed model to forecast the future of the housing market in the counties of interest. This work hopefully serves as a valued input to organizations working to expand opportunities and build linkages to state and national organizations supporting affordable housing initiatives and to design workforce development programs on the South Cumberland Plateau.
