Kathryn I. Thompson is a founding partner and chief executive officer of Thompson Research Group. In addition to managing and setting the direction of the firm, Thompson also serves as director of research. She brings over 15 years’ experience analyzing, modeling, and advising mutual funds, hedge funds, and pension funds on investment and portfolio management. Thompson was recognized by The Financial Times/Starmine as a “Top Stock Picker in Construction Materials” in 2010, 2012, 2013, 2017, and 2018 (an annual ranking of top-performing analysts). Prior to founding TRG, Thompson was an equity analyst at Avondale Partners and BB&T Capital Markets. A philosophy major at Sewanee, Thompson is a graduate of Vanderbilt University’s Owen Graduate School of Management, Thompson is a regular guest speaker at industry trade conferences and corporate meetings. She has been a guest on CNBC, Fox Business News, Bloomberg, and is quoted regularly by The Wall Street Journal, Barron’s, Forbes, Fortune, and Bloomberg.
She serves on the Board of Directors of Goodwill Industries of Middle Tennessee.
At Sewanee, Thompson was a Benedict Scholar and a member of Phi Kappa Epsilon sorority. As an alum, she has served as an admission, Sewanee Career Readiness, and Sewanee Fund volunteer. She served on the University’s Board of Trustees, and the advisory board of the Babson Center for Global Commerce. She has provided valuable internships to Sewanee students.
She and her husband, David, C’96, have two daughters, Harper and Helen Jane.
