MICHAEL REEVES, C'89
New canaan, CT

Michael Reeves is managing director at New York City-based emerging markets credit investment firm Greylock Capital Management LLC, where he heads marketing, investor relations, and business development. Reeves has more than two decades experience in the asset management industry and has led or co-led the marketing and investor relations effort at each of the firms for which he has worked. In addition to his current role in emerging markets credit, Reeves’s experience includes structured credit, commodities/macro, volatility strategies, systematic/quantitative trading, deep value investing, and equities activism. Prior to business school, Reeves worked for five years in higher education institutional advancement—first for Sewanee, starting the day after graduation in 1989, and later at Duke University, where he led undergraduate young alumni fundraising for several years.

Reeves is a member of the Class of 2017 Presidential Leadership Scholars Program, a partnership between the presidential centers of George W. Bush, William J. Clinton, George H.W. Bush, and Lyndon B. Johnson that brings together a select group of leaders who are focused on solving society’s toughest challenges and creating measurable change in their communities, our nation, and the world. The PLS Program gave Reeves the platform to develop Scouting’s Embrace, a program to actively recruit new-to-America refugees into the Boy Scouts of America’s various programs. The goal of Scouting’s Embrace is to provide a generous welcome to boys (and now girls) and their families to the United States, allay mutual fears while helping to rebuild shattered lives, and teach American values in order to raise great citizens.

Reeves has been active in Scouting—having served as a cubmaster, assistant scoutmaster, assistant district commissioner and, currently, as a member of the board of directors of the Connecticut Yankee Council of the Boy Scouts of America, which covers New Haven and Fairfield counties in Connecticut. Reeves has volunteered for Sewanee as class chair for close to 20 years, is a former president of the Sewanee Club of the Triangle, and is an Alumni Arcadian. He is a graduate of Leadership Memphis and a former board member of the Memphis Zoo. Professionally, Reeves is a member and former board member of the Association of Investment Management Sales Executives (AIMSE). He is a member of the CFA Institute, the New York Society of Securities Analysts, and the Connecticut Hedge Fund Association.

Reeves was a history major at Sewanee and earned his M.B.A. from Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business. He is a native of Brandon, Mississippi, now residing in New Canaan, Connecticut, with wife, Julie, and children Spencer (18), Kate (17), and Vivi (15).
