Chiedozie Michael Uhuegbu received his Ph.D. in German Studies with a specialization in
twenty-first century German literature and culture and a Graduate Certificate in Second
Language Studies from Vanderbilt University in 2021. His research interest includes the genre of
autobiography, the depiction of culture, and Blackness in African-German Migration literature.
Dr. Uhuegbu hopes to work on his dissertation titled “Borders, Belonging and Otherness in
African-German Literature” which will be his first book project. Before coming to Sewanee,
he was a Visiting Assistant Professor at Colorado College where he taught courses on Black
Germany and the African Diaspora and Borders, Citizens and Migration. Chiedozie has also
taught German language courses at all levels and was also an instructor of records for content
courses that centers on migration, German fairy tales, and German literature at Vanderbilt
University. Besides his doctorate degree, he earned Certificates in College Teaching (Online and
Face-to-Face Teaching) and Humanities Teaching from the Center for Teaching at Vanderbilt
University.
