School of Letters

]The Sewanee School of Letters offers the degree of MFA in creative writing. The faculty consists of Sewanee professors and distinguished writers and scholars from other campuses. Sessions take place in person during the summers and online during the Advent and Easter semesters.

Writers' Conference

Thanks to the generosity of Tennessee Williams and the Walter E. Dakin Memorial Fund, the Sewanee Writers’ Conference offers workshops in fiction, poetry, nonfiction, and playwriting. The Conference invites talented writers to come to Sewanee each July and learn from each other in a welcoming and supportive environment. In addition to workshops led by two faculty members, the program includes numerous readings, open mics, craft lectures, and master classes taught by faculty and fellows. Visiting editors, agents, and theater professionals also meet with participants and teach master classes as well.

Sewanee Summer Seminar

Each summer, a lively group gathers in Sewanee to hear lectures across a variety of disciplines and topics. The only prerequisite is that you enjoy the flow of ideas and the company of interesting people. Some participants are quickly swept into active dialogue; others come to absorb and reflect.
