Grundy Safe Communities Coalition

Located in Tracy City, Grundy Safe Communities Coalition, operating under Volunteer Behavioral Health Care System, has received a grant from the State of Tennessee specifically aimed at reducing the misuse and abuse of prescription drugs and opiod overdoses in Grundy County. The Bonner or Canale intern would work alongside the organization's AmeriCorps VISTA member to develop and implement programming for a youth club aimed at preventing drug abuse. The Intern will develop curriculum, build a cohort of student participants, organize field trips and collaborative experiences with neighboring schools, and collaborate with other school staff. Wednesday Wonderings (Formerly Well-Directed Curiosity)

Responsibilities as the Canale Intern in charge of Wednesday Wonderings include recruiting volunteers, planning a six week curriculum for Sewanee Elementary School students participating in the program, and leading the weekly classes. CCGB Clinic

The Canale Intern at the Christians Celebrating God’s Bounty Clinic will shadow doctors, and assist patients by taking vitals and checking medication. In addition, this Intern will work with Sewanee’s Medical and Health Program student interns, orient and train volunteers, and manage capacity-building projects for the clinic. South Cumberland Community Fund

The Canale Intern working with South Cumberland Community Fund will create content and gather stories for social media and website posts by interviewing SCCF board members, staff, and partners. The Intern will also document events and community projects. A second Canale Intern will support the SCCF’s grants program by communicating with grantees, assisting with the grant application and review process, and planning events. Midway Tutoring (with Community Action Committee)

The Community Action Committee coordinates volunteers for weekly tutoring sessions at St. James Episcopal Church in Midway. This Canale Intern will host, lead and measure of weekly tutoring sessions, recruit and manage volunteer tutors, and serve as a liaison to the CAC Director (currently Ms. Betty Carpenter). Grundy Eats

The Canale Intern for Grundy Eats will work on a new cooking show to be aired on GCTV - Grundy County TV. Chef Rick Wright and rotating co-hosts from the local community will host the program, which will showcase healthy recipes, cooking hacks, local health and wellness resources and events, and shout-outs to local residents who write in to share their thoughts and recipes related to cooking and growing up in Grundy County. The Intern’s duties will include scheduling co-hosts, arranging space and logistics, managing meal preparation, filming and editing episodes, communication and other social media advertising, sponsor advertisement, and other duties as assigned. Preferred candidates will experience with videography and film editing, strong time management and organizational skills, and sound interpersonal skills. St. Mary’s

The Community of St. Mary, Southern Province, is a women’s Benedictine community within the Episcopal Church and located 2 miles from Sewanee’s campus. They aim to promote a healthy, balanced lifestyle that promotes care for the body, the soul, and the earth. Organic Prayer Project Aids will work in the gardens of St. Mary's Convent during the growing season, and harvest and process lavender grown for their partnership with Thistle Farms in Nashville. Additionally, Interns will assist the Sisters of St. Mary in administrative work, chapel and library maintenance, fundraising, and outreach. Hospitality Shop

Through a collaboration with the Office of Environmental Stewardship and Sustainability, this Canale Intern position will work with the Hospitality Shop. The Hospitality Shop is a volunteer-run business that upcycles, recycles and re-purposes donations to lessen the impact on the environment. Most of the Hospitality Shop’s revenue is awarded to Franklin and Grundy County graduating High School students. Legal Aid Society of Middle Tennessee & the Cumberlands

The Legal Aid Society of Middle Tennessee and the Cumberlands is a nonprofit law firm committed to the principle that all citizens are due equal representation under the law, and provides free legal services for civil cases, particularly for low-income individuals. This Canale Intern would provide case assistance at the Tullahoma office, preparing information and materials for cases, assisting with community education and outreach, facilitating collaboration with other agencies, and providing general legal office assistance.
