The Office of Civic Engagement supports multiple summer and academic year internships for students to invest in community and deepen their leadership and professional skills.

Civic Engagement Internships

Bonner Leader Program

The Bonner Leaders Program at Sewanee provides a four-year service and leadership scholarship for students committed to service. Bonner students receive ongoing training while working closely with local community partners, University faculty and staff to support our common life on the Plateau.

Canale Leadership and Service Internship

Supported by the Canale Endowment, student interns pursue a year-long project that addresses a community-identified. Canales work together with community members to positively impact our local area, while building a service-shaped community of peers on campus.

Philanthropy Internship

Through an innovative partnership between The South Cumberland Community Fund (SCCF) and the University of the South, current sophomores and juniors have the opportunity to learn about community-based philanthropy firsthand.

Summer Civic Engagement Internships

The Office of Civic Engagement offers funding for unpaid summer internships through a partnership with Sewanee Career Readiness. Sewanee students can also serve over the summer through the South Cumberland Plateau AmeriCorps VISTA Project’s Summer Associate program.
