What

The fifteen-day Russian Language Camp language program will allow high school students at beginner and intermediate level to advance further along their path to proficiency. In addition to classroom learning, students will be able to use the target language they learn in the classroom while exploring the 13,000 acres of natural beauty surrounding the university. We encourage everyone from novice to advanced language level learners to join the camp. Classroom learning will be separated based on language skills, while most experiential activities will be in a completely immersive environment.

Most mornings students will engage in immersive language learning in the classroom. In the afternoon, students will continue to excel their language skills through project-based activities (e.g. hiking, organic gardening, biking, caving, etc.) while maintaining as much of an immersive environment as possible. The theme of “Environmental Stewardship” will provide ample opportunities for communication about food, geography, and culture; learning about the cultures and environments of Russian-speaking communities; connecting to art and history. There will also be opportunities for connecting with local Russian-speaking communities. By the end of the program, students will not only advance their speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills, but will also build confidence in their language skills.

The anticipated cost per student for Sewanee's Russian Language Camp is $2600. This will cover all tuition, lodging, meals, and transportation associated with the program once students arrive on campus. Limited scholarships are available.

When

The 2024 Sewanee Russian Language Camp is June 15 - June 29, 2024. Students will live in a residence hall on campus for the entire time, with the possibility of an overnight camping trip.
