Testing at Sewanee

Sewanee has developed a custom testing program in partnership with the Chattanooga-based Baylor Esoteric and Molecule Lab. The test is a nucleic acid assay, the most accurate form of testing. The test is a non-invasive self-administered saliva test. We expect to get results within 24 hours and usually on the same day.

Any employee with a positive test result should contact their personal health care provider and follow the provider’s medical advice. A student who receives a positive test result may return home for a period of isolation and recovery, or University Health Services will provide a plan for their care in isolation housing here.

University staff collaborate with the Tennessee Department of Health to conduct contact tracing and notify the close contacts of a positive test. If you have not been notified, then you are not considered to have increased risk because of exposure to an individual who tested positive.

The University will not post individual names with test results; should you be aware of additional identifying information about someone reflected in the summary, please respect that person’s privacy.

What to expect when you arrive

All students will be tested upon arrival to campus. To make the testing and move-in process go as smoothly as possible, we have compiled a detailed step-by-step description of the day so you will know what to expect.
